The "correct" answer to #1 is "kill it with fire". Implicitly coercing an object to string and then using it that way? No, refactor the darn code.

And I'd hope any interviewee would answer similarly. I'm not hiring tricksters, I'm hiring people who can write sustainable, understandable code...
